Advising

Your first opportunity to meet with an academic adviser will be at Transfer Orientation. Because we know that registering for classes is one of your major concerns, your College Meeting, Advising, and Registration take place during the morning of your on-campus Orientation program.

During the College Meeting, you will have the opportunity to meet staff from your college, learn more about academic requirements, receive one-on-one academic advising, and register for classes.

To make the most out of your advising appointment, here are some tips:
  • Come prepared with a list of questions. This list might include questions about your transfer of coursework, potential majors or minors, research opportunities, or study abroad.
  • Have an idea about what type of classes you would like to take. Use the Class Selection Tutorial at http://onestop.umn.edu/registration/prepare/selection_tools/index.html.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Grad Planner. http://onestop.umn.edu/degree_planning/graduation_planner.html
