"Celebrate U!" event at TCF stadium joins CTL visibility effort!

As many know, CTL will be promoting our services to the University community on August 25, from 2-6 at the new TCF Bank stadium. 10,000 people are expected in attendance! In addition, the Celebrate U! event will be taking place at the same time(!) What a coincidence! Celebrate U! is an appreciation event for staff and faculty. All are welcome! For more information, see

Bush grant on leadership

One of the discussions the leadership team has had has been about our possible involvement in a Bush grant on the topic of leadership. Many of us have heard about this, and some of us have met informally over a few lunches to discuss the literature related to this, as it eventually may involve several of us.

Good news: the latest is that it appears David will have a hand (with others) in writing the proposal for the Universities involvement in this Bush grant!

Thats the summary version anyway--ask David if you have any questions!

Moodle addition: customized workshop form

(from Anita). A sample Customized Workshop(s) Letter of Agreement has been posted to our CTL Moodle site under "Forms." This form was designed with a workshop series in mind (rather than an individual workshop). You may tailor this letter to suit your needs. The only piece I suggest you always keep is the section on "Fees & Payment."

Unveiled: Online Journal Section of CTL Website

The Online Journal section of the CTL website has been updated and is now live. For the past several months, the evidence-based pedagogy group (Ilene Alexander, Kate Martin, Colleen Meyers, Jane O'Brien, Christina Petersen, and Bill Rozaitis) worked on a redesign of the online journals site with the goals of providing staff expertise and stewardship to the selection of specific journals, creating a site that is easier to navigate, and highlighting timely information and/or trends in educational research. Chris Parker and Viviane Boluda created the final product that you can check out at http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/teachlearn/resources/journals/index.html. Your feedback is most welcome!

Land Ho!

Chris, along with former CTLer and Feeble-Bodied Seaman Paul Baepler, just completed a sailing class at Lake Harriet. The Coast Guard did not need to be called, even once. Nevertheless, we had a really good time. Our instructor, very calm and mature as we did our best to sink his boat, turned 19 between the 2nd and 3rd sessions.

list of potential donor recipients

Efforts are underway to add the CTL to a list of potential donation recipients at the University Foundation web site. Hey, if 25 people can donate $1 million each to the stadium, maybe there's one person out there who'd like to donate a more modest gift to the U's teaching and learning mission!
