Games symposium
I attended the Games Symposium as a way to gain extra credit for my digital studio class, but found out that it was very interesting. I stayed for over an hour! One of the speakers that interested me was David Grossman. He talked about the violence of video games like grand theft auto, which keep growing. One game he mentioned was vice city, I had to agree with him. I had seen some people play it and just wondered what the point was. Hopefully like Mr. Grossman said the positive potential of games will become a reality. Some of the things that are associated with the positive are motivation, retention of memory, math skills and number comprehension. Also spatial skills, which I can relate to as an artist. Even learning! I agreed also with the fact that women are objectified and given these small costumes to fight in battles while the male figures are all about armor and guns. It is not very realistic to put a babe in that gear and expect her to defend herself, come on.
