Sometimes it's hard to think of ways to describe sounds when media captioning. You know what it is, but you just can't find a word to get it across. While I think it's probably best to avoid those "Batman" sound descriptors like "bam!" or "zap!" it's nice to have a variety of options to choose from.
I've found the Written Sound website helpful in the past when I'm at a loss for how to explain a sound.
It has lots of options and some are appropriate for our use, some not so much. Although I would find it pretty funny if I open up a transcript to do timecoding and see a something like "dibble dibble dopp dopp". Yes, that one's actually on there.
Does anyone else have resources they use for sound effects?
