Chicago high-rise fire kills one, injures 12

USA Today reported that a huge fire broke out after 1 a.m. Thursday in a high-rise in Chicago. There were hundreds of firefighters trying to put the fire out.

One woman that lived on the 36th floor died in the fire. Twelve others were injured including five firefighters. None of the injuries are life-threatening, according to authorities.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the woman who died was named Beata Bihl and she was an 84-year-old German immigrant. She called 911, but she never made it out of the apartment building. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

Cadaver dogs search house of mass murder suspect

CNN reported, that the FBI, with the help of cadaver dogs, searched the house where a suspected serial killer once lived.

Anthony Sowell, 50, has been charged with 11 counts of aggravated murder after the remains of ten women and a skull were found at his home and buried in the yard, AP said. He faces arraignment Thursday on an 85-count indictment returned Tuesday by a Cuyahoa County grand jury, according to AP.

His previous home is now being searched to see if he buried additional bodies there. So far nothing has been found at his previous home. The current owners of the home cooperated with the FBI and continue to allow them to search. 

Teenager charged with murdering a 9-year-old girl

A grand jury in Jefferson City, Mo. indicted a 15-year-old on Wednesday of first-degree murder of her 9-year-old neighbor, USA Today reported.

Alyssa Bustamante was accused of murdering her neighbor Elizabeth Olten. Bustamante is accused of strangling the girl, cutting her throat and stabbing the girl. The murder took place Oct. 21. 

If she is convicted she could be sentenced to life in prison.

ABC reported that Bustamante confessed to the crime and said she did it so she would "know what it felt like to kill someone." 

She is being held without bond in Cole County jail. 

6 Relatives Charged in Child Sex Abuse Case

USA Today reported that a sixth relative, who called child sex abuse allegations against his brother and four nephews "repulsive", was charged Friday in Lexington, Mo. with raping two children, authorities said. 

Darrel Wayne Mohler, 72, was charged Friday with two counts of rape from 1986, according to court documents.

CNN reported that five other members of the Mohler family were also charged. Mohler's brother Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., 77, and his sons Burrell Edward Mohler Jr.,53; David A. Mohler, 52; and Roland Neil Mohler, 47, also face charges from the mid-1980s until 1995 and more charges are expected next week. 

Mohler Sr., David Mohler and Jared Mohler are lay ministers in the Community of Christ, the Independence, the organization said in a statement. Lay ministers are volunteer ministers. 

Polygamist Sect Leader Convicted of Sexual Assault

     A polygamist sect leader was convicted of assaulting a girl under the age of 17.
     Raymond Jessop was arrested after last year's raid of Texas ranch that openly practices polygamy, CNN reported.
     The under-age girl was one of his assigned 9 wives.
     According to the New York Times, Jessop will be sentenced on Thursday. 

Mock Brett Favre Funeral

           A radio station held a mock Brett Favre funeral on Friday.
           The Vikings are playing the Packers on Sunday and this will be Favre's first time playing at Lambeau field since he left the team.
          The event was held at Tom, Dick and Harry's a bar behind the Packer's practice field, according to Yahoo! News
          Fans will be able to leave memorials like Favre memorabilia, reported the Green Bay Press-Gazett.
          All donations will go the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation. 

Girls body found in Georgia landfill

      The body of a small girl found in a Georgia landfill has been identified as a missing Florida girl.
       Somer Thompson, 7, had been missing from Orange Park, Florida since Monday. Her body has been identified in a Georgia landfill and the police are calling it a homicide, reported KARE 11.
      According to CNN, the girl went missing when she was walking home from school. The police have not released the cause of death.
      Deina Thompson, Somer's mother, sent out a warning to her daughter's killer on camera and said that she will not rest until the killer is found. 

Alleged Mafia members to plead guilty

     Six alleged members of a South Florida crew for New York's Bonanno organized crime family are set to plead guilty in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
     They are being charged with racketeering or RICO conspiracy by committing a variety of crimes including murder conspiracy, racketeering, insurance fraud, identity theft and selling stolen good, according to USA TODAY.
      Six are pleading guilty but the Miami Herald reported that their alleged leader of the crew, Thomas Fiore has pleaded not guilty.
       RICO conspiracy has a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Gang of raccoons attack woman

     A Florida woman was attacked by a "gang of raccoons" Saturday afternoon.
     Gretchen Whitted, 74, was trying to shoo the animals away from her front door and they attacked her, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, KARE 11 reported.
     "When she fell down, they enveloped her," Sheriff Judd said in a news conference, KARE 11 reported.
     Raccoons are aggressive when it comes to food but USA TODAY reported that the sheriff had never heard of a gang attack.
     The raccoons that attacked the women have not been found and even if raccoons are caught it will be hard to tell if they are the attackers.
     

Chicago student beat to death

     A Chicago teenager was beaten to death Thursday while walking home from school.
    Derrion Alberts, 16, was walking home from school on the South Side of Chicago when a gang fight occurred. Albert was "a bystander" and did not belong to either group, Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Jodi Peterson said in court, USA TODAY reported.
     Prosecutors have charged three teenagers in the beating of Albert. They are being held on first-degree murder charges.
     The state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin told KARE 11 that the teens were charged Monday as adults.
