Not All CS Classes Are Enjoyable
I've taken many wonderful classes as a graduate student. Even when they meant a lot of work, I enjoyed them and really got a lot from them. This is not the case with one of my classes this semester. I am taking a nightmare called Machine Learning.
I've seen many of the topics discussed in this class before in classes like Pattern Recognition. But this class manages to make all of that impossible to understand. Take a lot of probability and statistics, add in some complicated linear algebra and make up many weird mathematical symbols and then expect the students to be experts in these areas and you get Machine Learning. The lecture slides are basically equation after equation. A void is created in my heart every time I enter this classroom.
I am currently working on our first punishment (a.k.a homework). And this blog post is the result of my shaken mind. Please forgive my rants.

Sounds very boring. You should bring a Nintendo DS with you to class. That always helps me.

Yep, I can see why you hate it. Sounds like a class I also would not enjoy.

"A void is created in my heart every time I enter this classroom." ...Priceless quote.

Oh my! Well you sure did a good job of conveying the torture you're feeling in this blog post. It sounds like a terrible class. I can certainly identify with that 'void in one's heart' type feeling; I've felt that before. It's the type of class that simply sitting down and staring at one's book/notebook makes one want to stick one's tongue out in disgust. Oh well, good luck with your punishment (I had never seen a more appropriate term for homework).

And I never though of that before! I mean as a tool to punish you when you were younger!

My poor little kid is suffering in this class... : (
Yo no sé, tan lindas que son las matemáticas, la probabilidad, la estadística…, quien es ese mounstruo que las está dañanado?

Usually I don't care if the class is boring. The problem is when you have to do very long and complicated homework based on impossible-to-understand material, a horrible book, and instructors who assume you know much more than you really do.

I understand. In contrast to you, however, I have only taken 2 classes that I liked. The rest have been great torture to me.

That sounds like a class from hell. Nothing worse than a class you dread about.

My days in school were dreadful. I was a computer science major, and its interesting to note that not a single company asked me what my grades were afterwards.
