Feeling Appreciated

Recently, I met a Korean and a Chinese who can speak Spanish. (I also know a Japanese who is taking Spanish). This has been somewhat surprising for me, since it is something that is not very common to see here in Minnesota. Most foreigners are still trying to tackle English, so very few of them go for a third language.

So when I met these people who can speak Spanish, I felt a sudden sense of appreciation. They are taking the time to learn about my culture and my language. I feel that my culture is important to them. It is amazing how a simple thing as learning a language can accomplish so much and shorten the gap between people of different backgrounds.

I hope to someday let them know they are appreciated too and learn some Chinese and Korean. But for now, I hope a simple "Thank you" can suffice.

That's so cool, here in South Florida we take that for granted, everyone speaks Spanish here. Even Anglo-Americans. By the way, are there any hispanic restaurants in Minneapolis? All I remember is Mexican places, but nothing Caribbean. I missed that a lot when I was there.

There are a few non-Mexican restaurants around. Victor's Cafe is a popular Cuban restaurant in the area. I also remember eating at a Peruvian place. And there is a restaurant that I haven't been to called El Meson which serves Caribbean food. So there are a few options around here, but hard to find. Sadly, I haven't found a Puerto Rican restaurant yet.

Next time I'm in Minnesota I want to eat at Victor's Cafe, and will like to sample El Meson also... and I know a Puertorican restaurant in Minn, is Called "Marian's and Fernandopulus Place"
