teacher/admin staff development

Would be helpful to spend more time on staff dev strategies - maybe as opposed to the theories. Research on what works would also be helpful.

Maybe our staff dev classes are not all that effective in helping teachers use technology. Some type of follow up might be necessary. Maybe new strategies altogether. This will be difficult.

Great demo on tools - lots of them - way too many to track.

Too bad we did not get to the digital device issue.

prof dev models

This practical approach is much appreciated. Not sure if the quick exercise is the best approach - though not sure I can come up with a better one. More time to discuss the different approaches might be helpful since staff development is a huge issue. I think this would be more helpful than the theory - or the theory part could be more abbreviated.

tech teaching discussion

Good discussion on tech teaching and if tech makes a difference. Making a difference is the key question we will get from administrators.

The notion that more support and dependenc on a school and others has an inverse relationship to the success of tech projects is not a good sign. Wonder what would happen in a more tech savy school.

to buy or not to buy

... or whether to use or not to use. The key issue is if the software or tech integration is useful in helping students learn better/faster/quicker. Some would say it does if it helps them do better on standard tests. A better question is if it better prepares them for life down the road. Does putting it in frame works help this process or aid in making these decisions. Presumably transformational software is "better" than replacement. But if it accomplishes the goal - helping kids learn, then it is not clear that the distinction matters.

barry note

Don't feed innovators - they feed themselves. Interesting comment.

software reflections

Collection of K-12 software on table is a good idea - lots of work but useful for teachers evaluating software.

Privacy/security issues with blogs - great for sharing, but what about the security stuff?

Use of Excel is a good idea since it is widely used in the "real" world. Not sure if Blackwater Creek Data was a great tutorial.

Inspiration - widely acclaimed, but complex software. How to decide which software to spend time learning.

How is student use of software monitored by teachers? Should it be?

tech integration - initial thoughts

Initial thoughts for campus week - overwhelmed. I can't imagine how anyone attends school full time and also works. Some even do it with kids. Key subject area - critical to using technology effectively. Many challenges - teachers are overwhelmed with requirements and many very tech wary. Still we have several at our new school who are thriled with new technology and are making great use of it despite minimal training. Getting others to follow is a key issue as is showing its effectiveness.
