Reading Journal Instructions

Your journal response should be a typed, double-spaced, 1-2 page investigation of the question posed in the prompt. As mentioned in the syllabus, you should include, in the top left-hand corner of the page:

Your Name
EngL 1701-11

You’re not expected to turn to outside sources for the reading journal—the journal entry you turn in should be a reflection of your thinking about the text. You are welcome to cite from the text in support of your opinion, though I would encourage you to cite sparingly. I want to hear your voice in your journal entries—I’m interested in what you have to say.

Journal #1

The question you should respond to in your first reading journal, due on Tuesday, 2/5, is the following:
How does The Sun Also Rises portray masculinity in the post-war moment?

Feel free to approach this question in any way you see fit--you're not restricted to the discussion of masculinity which took place in class, though you're certainly welcome to draw from that discussion.
