John Smith & colonizatin goals

I thought it was interesting to note, that John Smith was much more concerned in his writings about personal gain than earlier explorers. ALthough he mentions the missions opportunities, he focuses mainly on the opportunity for an able bodied individual to make a successful life for themself, not just through fortune, but through the lifestyle they would live in the colonies. THis seems to be a marked shift from AMerica as a resource to be cultivated, to an area to be inhabited and people to prosper there, not just in the homeland.
