Call us crazy, but we want to have Tiramisu as our wedding cake. I am CONVINCED that it can be done!
Some of our family have politely tried to shy us away from this idea. Maybe they think it isn't traditional enough, or maybe they think its weird. I don't care....I LOVE Tiramisu and if there is a way to form it into a wedding cake, by God, we're having it! (By the way, Derek wants it too....this isn't a Bridezilla moment!)
In case you aren't familiar with the dessert, it's a layer of ladyfingers soaked in espresso, and then layered with Marscapone cheese (which is like a creamy, sweet, fluffy cheese and sugar concoction spiked with a little liquor) and then dusted with cocoa powder or a little cocoa and espresso powder. Every place makes it a little differently, but we seem to like it everywhere we have it.
I found a great site (with a strange title) all about Tiramisu. They have a recipe for a Tiramisu wedding cake, so I guess I could pass that on to a bakery if they didn't already make their own version.
People ask us, "why Tiramisu"? I don't know...Derek and I always split a piece whenever we go to an Italian restaurant. It's sort of a tradition with us, so it seems appropriate to share one REALLY BIG piece with everyone at our wedding.
Posted by tsch0020 at June 6, 2005 3:29 PMthat would be really neat! Definitely something more memorable than the traditional white wedding cake.
Posted by: Dawn at June 7, 2005 2:24 PMThat sounds like it would be special between the two of you, and heck, it'd be Jen and Derek Day! I would say go for it, sounds like a fun cake!
Posted by: Sylvie Thao at June 8, 2005 4:11 PMYou're not crazy. Once I saw the People magazine with someone's wedding and the cake was Tiramisu (which I thought wasn't possible) I wanted my wedding cake to be Tiramisu, because nothing else could be better! Everyone always does traditional! Why not change it up? I love Tiramisu and I'm meeting someone today who says that they have done it and can do it... we'll see! :)
Posted by: Giselle at August 8, 2005 2:10 PMI wanted a tiramisu for my first wedding. My mom really shot me down on that one. The marriage didn't work (probably the cake's fault) and now, years later, I'm getting married again and I still want one. I figured I'll do it myself-I lived in Italy and have THE perfect recipe-but I'm looking for ways to make it pretty. It'll be a very small wedding. Does anybody have any ideas?
Posted by: Julia at January 26, 2007 8:03 PMTiramisu! We're certainly going to add that to our wedding cake ideas.
Posted by: Janna at October 5, 2009 12:50 AMThis sounds like a great idea. I love Tiramisu. Can you do it in more than one layer? How did it turn out? Do you have any pictures? I'd like to post about it on my wedding blog at http://www.ourweddingplus.com/blog

Posted by: Wedding Photography Sydney - Thina Doukas at July 15, 2010 7:48 AMI love this idea. I like to give my brides some new ideas for flowers, cakes and favors. How did this turn out? Its nice because you were able to continue the tradition that you guys love tiramisu. I love when couples inject a unique part of them in their wedding.
Posted by: Jen the wedding favors girl at July 24, 2010 1:08 PMI wish I'd thought of Tiramisu for my wedding cake. I had a full 4 tier chocolate cake (I love chocolate!). Tiramisu would have been a brilliant addition ;-)

Posted by: Tom Ellis - Seattle Wedding Photographer at July 26, 2010 12:27 AMOur cake was a flourless chocolate cake, probably the most intense chocolate cake that I've had either before or since; and as a wedding photographer i get to sample a LOT of different cakes! Posted by: Best Man Speeches at August 14, 2010 5:40 AMThis is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Posted by: solar panels installers at August 15, 2010 5:35 AMIt's your special day and you should serve and enjoy your favorites, and not try to be a crowd pleaser. However, Tiramisu should be a BIG hit!

On the other hand, I can relate to parents who want the wedding to have a more traditional feel... tough call!!
Posted by: Jerusalem Wedding Photographer at August 22, 2010 5:42 AMWedding cakes can be very expensive. We bought a sheet cake for our wedding and had a fake cake for pictures. Posted by: multi layer at February 9, 2011 4:13 PMTwo years ago I bought a cookbook called Mediterraneo with some delicious recipes from the Mediterranean. Among many great recipes, there was a recipe for the Semifreddo Al Tiramisu - my favorite Italian desert. So, I decide I should cook it as it didn't require the actual "baking", just put all the ingredients together and throw it in the freezer. God, was I wrong! It took me one week to put all the ingredients together, with the most painful being the vanilla sugar. Couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up buying vanilla fruits and confectionery sugar separately, and mixed them. Had to wait a week before the sugar absorbed the flavor. I even bought a bottle of authentic Italian Marsala (was difficult to find too!), and a bottle of Amarreto di Saronno.
The Tiramisu cake turned out great but a bit too fatty for my taste because of the mascarpone cheese and heavy cream. I decided to do a light version next time, but eventually resigned to ordering the cake at the restaurants. Still have that bottle of Marsala!
I would like to see how it looks like :)
