Crookston Student Association

With only 16 class days left we are just trying to wrap things up and we are starting for prepare for next year. As you know we just recently had elections for our board next year. Congrats to Alisha Aasness who will be the President next year. Just yesterday we held faculty and staff appreciation day which went over very well. Coming up this week we have a full board meeting at noon on Thursday and Thursday night is the awards banquet at 6pm in Kiehle. We only have a few meeting left for this year so we are trying to make the transition as easy as possible with the new board. Good luck on Finals and Congrats to everyone who is graduating. 

                Hey everybody! This is Senator of City Relations, Christina! We have had a busy week on campus! Elections for the 2011-2012 CSA Executive Board were held on Monday, April 4 & Tuesday, April 5. The results are in and the results are:

                Congratulations on your positions! Also, the changes to the CSA Constitution were passed on Monday April 4th with a full student body vote. 

                Today- Thursday April 7^th CSA hosted the Commons event with Marty Essen's "Around the World in 90 Minutes." It sure was an interesting show he put on!

Students, come and vote for the 2011-2012 CSA Executive Board Monday- April 4th and Tuesday- April 5th from 10AM-2PM in the Student Center!

This is Nana Boaten, CSA Senator for International Relations. The 2010-2011 academic year is gradually coming to an end at the University of Minnesota, Crookston and the tenure of executive board members on the Crookston Student Association is also coming to an end.  The time has come for a new dynamic breed of students to take up the mantle of leadership to help run and steer the affairs of the Crookston Student Council.  Elections are just around the corner and the opening and closing of applications for student government was just completed between the 21^st and 27^th of March 2011.  The application deadline was March 27^th, 2011 and it is hoped that, a lot of students would be encouraged to take up leadership positions on the Student Council for the next academic year. Campaigning for elections are all this week- and Elections will be taking place Monday- April 4^th and Tuesday- April 5^th from 10AM-2PM in the Student Center each day, so come out and vote! Also, on Monday- April 4^th at the elections table, there will be voting to adopt the new CSA Constitution- this takes a full student body vote, so please vote for that as well.

Also, the University of Minnesota, Crookston Campus Assembly event will be held on March 31, 2011 at Bede Ballroom.  This is an opportunity to learn from the Chancellor the important strides that are being made to uplift and enhance the academic experience at the university and also an opportunity for various committees to present their activities and programs that they have been working on over the past weeks.  We encourage the high attendance rate from students to come and share their thoughts and ideas as to how to make the university a better place for everybody.

Attention UMC Students:

Applications for the 2011-2012 CSA Executive Board are available at the Student Center Information Desk all this week. Applications are due at the Information Desk at 5:00 PM on Sunday March 27th, 2011.

Hi! Everyone~ This is Joo Hyun "Julie" Bae, Senator for Committee on Committees. Recently, CSA is working on elections for new senators for 2011-2012. Since many CSA senators and executive boards are going to graduate this semester, CSA encourages students to apply CSA positions. If anyone wants to get involved in UMC and to help students as students' bodies, then we welcome you to be CSA members!! If you want to apply for CSA position, you need to submit your application first. After spring break, we are going to accept CSA applications at the information desk from March 21^st to March 27^th. Campaigning will be from March 28^th to April 3^rd. After that, the election will be on April 4^th and 5^th. If all of you will participate in the election to vote for CSA candidates, it would be great.

Also, CSA has proposed an amendment of the constitution and bylaws as you can see on the previous post.

The CSA Constitution and Bylaws were proposed today, and the proposal was approved with at least a 2/3 vote during our CSA Full Board Meeting.

This is Anna, Vice President- and I've been working on the awards committee lately.  CSA is responsible for 4 faculty/staff awards: Most Creative Use of Technology for faculty, Outstanding Educator for faculty, Most Supportive of Students for faculty, and Outstanding Service to Students for staff.  Each of these awards are given out on April 14th during UMC Awards Night and they are a big honor for the faculty or staff to receive.  Last week CSA had a table in the International Lounge and boxing at the Info Desk and Centennial for students to nominate the faculty and staff that they felt were the most deserving.  The nominations have been tallied and those who received the most nominations were put into the ballot to be voted on this week.  I encourage everyone to come to the International Lounge from 10-2 on Monday March 7th and Tuesday March 8th to vote for the faculty/staff awards.  

Students, Come and Nominate Faculty/Staff for four Awards: Most Creative Use of Technology (Faculty), Outstanding Educator (Faculty), Most Supportive of Students (Faculty), and Outstanding Service to Students (Staff). Nominations are accepted at the International Lounge from 10AM-2PM, and Throughout the week at the Centennial Front Desk and Information Desk. 

Hello all! This is Angie Bartholomew, S.P.A.C.E. Chair. Currently, CSA is focusing on getting students involved in "Because Letters"--writing notes to their legislators stating why UMC is so important to them and their education. If you are interested in writing a letter, stop by the CSA Office in the Leadership Room (2^nd floor of the Student Center). Support the U Day is coming up, next Tuesday, February 22^nd. Support the U day involves a day long trip down to the Capital building in St. Paul where a rally is held and meetings with Minnesota legislators. If you are interested in attending Support the U Day, contact Thomas Haarstick or Shawn Friedland. As for upcoming SPACE events, we have a busy week next week! On Monday, February 21^st, we have Austin Kyle performing in the Northern Lights Lounge from 11:30am-1:00pm so make sure to stop out and see him! On Wednesday, February 23^rd, we have Mr. UMC going on, beginning at 7pm in Kiehle Auditorium. Mr. UMC is a male pageant-like competition, and this year we have seven contestants competing. The theme this year is Axe Men: Men In Flannel. It should be a great show, so make sure you attend!! The following Wednesday, March 2^nd , Chapter 6 will be on campus. They are an all male a cappella  group, that have an amazing sound and are also quite humorous on stage. They will be performing at 7pm in Kiehle on March 2^nd, come by and check them out!

 

I would also like to let everyone know about the Honor program being put on by BSA to celebrate Black History Month. It is on Monday, February 28^th from 6pm-8pm in Kiehle Auditorium and it is a program dedicated to honoring the African-American men and women who have fought and served in the United States military. Make sure to participate in this event and show your support by wearing a yellow ribbon.
