Contact: Mitch Bakken- Sports Information Director (218) 281-8414(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team returns to NSIC action this weekend when they host Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State on January 2 and 3. Minnesota, Crookston had a non-conference game scheduled in Hancock, Mich. on December 29 against Finlandia University but it was postponed due to weather conditions. Tip-off for this weekend's action is set for 4:00 p.m. on both days.
Minnesota, Crookston is 4-6 overall this season and 2-2 in conference play. The team is led by Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) who is averaging 14.9 points/game. She leads the squad with 5.6 rebounds/game and in free-throw percentage at .836 (56-67). Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) averages 14.8 points/game and is second on the team in rebounds/game with 4.4 and assists with 24. Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) closes out the top scorers averaging 11.4 points/ game.
Minnesota State University: The Mavericks are 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. MSU is led by Jennie Noreen who averages 16.9 points/game. She leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (.457), three-point field goals made (21) and steals (20). Tiffany Moe follows Noreen with 14.7 points/game while Liz Trauger leads the team with 6.3 rebounds/game.
SW Minnesota State: The Mustangs are 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. SMSU is led by Tori Fink who averages 12.2 points/game and leads the Mustangs in three-point field goals made with 19. Laura Kramer leads the squad with 6.9 rebounds/game with 26 of her 62 rebounds being offensive boards.
The Golden Eagles travel to Wayne State and Augustana on January 8 and 9. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m. in Wayne and 5:00 p.m. in Sioux Falls.
