(Crookston, Minn.)- Concordia University-St. Paul outscored the University of Minnesota, Crookston 16-13 in overtime and won an exciting 82-79 Northern Sun Intercollegiate (NSIC) Men's Basketball game tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn. on "White Out" Night.
Both teams swapped leads five times before the Golden Eagles took a slim 32-30 halftime lead over the Golden Bears. After a thrilling second half, Concordia University-St. Paul held on down the stretch to secure their first NSIC victory of the season.
The Golden Bears were led by Craig Heiman who scored 25 points (8-for-18) with six rebounds and two assists. Sammy Ricks scored 15 points (7-for-13) with four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Mike Cunningham added 12 points (4-for-11) with ten rebounds and two assists.
The Golden Eagles were led by Akeem Cubie (Jr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) who scored 27 points (11-for-15) with seven rebounds and six assists. Adam Hendricks (Jr, F, Watertown, Minn.) scored 14 points (6-for-11). Damarius Cruz (Fr, G, Plymouth, Minn.) added 13 points with five assists and two steals.
Concordia University-St. Paul improves to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC. The University of Minnesota, Crookston falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 12 when they play host to St. Cloud State University in and NSIC encounter. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
