The Music on Monday Series will feature So Long Solo on Monday, February 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Northern Lights Lounge, Sargeant Student Center.
For many years, the members of this Kansas City duo wove their stories a mere 45 minutes apart, never knowing that the other existed. Mark had spent the past five years writing and performing under his pseudonym, theothermarkmiller, taking him from the Midwest to a year-long artist in residency in Tokyo, Japan. Meanwhile, Heather finished her music degree, moved to Uganda and South America to serve orphans and volunteer, and at last "settled" back home in Lawrence, Kansas, where she developed her flute studio. Then fate intervened on the back of a canceled open-mic and a boutique coffee shop.
Three years later they emerge with 30,000 miles logged on coast-to-coast tour (as former band theothermarkmiller), an energized fanbase, and a future that looks brighter than the new rings on their fingers. Collectively, they have headlined over 150 shows, and shared shows with many notable bands including Stars Go Dim, Andrea Hamilton, Blake Aaron Guthrie, The Bergamot, Melissa Rapp, and more.
