The student group Crookston Students for Sustainable Development (CSSD) is proud to bring the "Cans for Cancer" campaign to UMC. Beginning in Fertile, MN, the effort is collecting aluminum cans and selling them for the scrap aluminum. The money is then donated to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The money is used for research and patient care in Minnesota.
Mike Olson of Fertile came up with the idea on a trip over to Duluth. Another organization was collecting aluminum cans and Mike thought that she could do the same. With help from her husband, Butch, she set up a trailer and began collecting. They have been doing this for the last four years and have raised a significant amount of money for cancer research and patient help.
CSSD decided to sponsor the project at UMC and donate the collected cans to the Olsons' fund. Around campus you may see the new bins for the "Cans for Cancer" initiative. Please deposit any aluminum cans into these containers!
