We are very pleased to announce that Rachel McCoppin has been selected as one of seven 2013 Horace T. Morse Alumni Association Award winners for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. This award is the highest honor the University of Minnesota bestows on its faculty for excellence in undergraduate teaching and with this award comes membership into the University of Minnesota Academy of Distinguished Teachers. The Liberal Arts and Education Department now has two members of the ADT!

Jack Geller, Ph.D., professor and department head, Liberal Arts & Education Department, has been asked by the Minnesota Senate Committee on Jobs, Agriculture and Rural Development (Chaired by Senator Dan Sparks, DFL - Austin) to make a presentation and provide testimony regarding broadband and its relationship to rural development.  He will appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 30.

Geller on MPR's "The Daily Circuit" and Bumgarner quoted by AP

Jack Geller, Ph.D., professor and department head, Liberal Arts & Education Department, was among the featured guests appearing on the December 12 edition of The Daily Circuit, a program on Minnesota Public Radio. The topic of the day's discussion was how to revitalize rural America. The program is available via Minnesota Public Radio's website.

In a recent article for the Associated Press (AP), Jeff Bumgarner, Ph.D., associate professor of criminal justice, served as a quoted commentator on the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an agency that collects taxes from and regulates those industries. The article, written by AP business writer Daniel Wagner, appeared nationwide in print and online media, among them The Denver Post.
