Manure has been used as a nutrient source for crop production for many centuries. However, only in the last few decades have we started to fully understand the chemistry involved in manure nutrient availability.

University of Minnesota Extension is leading a 2013 Minnesota Statewide High Tunnel Conference, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 12 and 13, at The Arrowwood Lodge at Brainerd Lakes in Baxter, Minn. High tunnels, also called high hoops or hoop houses, are temporary structures that extend the growing season.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and University of Minnesota Extension are joining forces to help detect new and emerging pests of fruit and vegetable crops. The first ever First Detector training for new and emerging pests of fruit and vegetable crops will be offered at the 2013 Upper Midwest Regional Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference on January 16, 2013 in St. Cloud.

Farmland prices on the rise
