It’s lawn care season in Minnesota, and many people are turning to fertilizers to help grow greener grass as well as vibrant plants and flowers. Dave Tilman, a U of M professor of ecology, says the chemical fertilizers one can buy at the local lawn-and-garden store certainly help grass and plants grow, but they cause severe negative effects on the environment.
