Speech recognition software has been around for several years, but apart from helping people dictate notes, there has only been limited usage for the average person. William Schuler, professor of computer science and engineering at the University of Minnesota, is working on a project that is looking for ways to improve speech recognition techniques, and make them more useful for people – especially elderly citizens or people with disabilities.
