Talking to Children about the I-35W Bridge Collapse
All of Minnesota has seen the tragic images of twisted cars and concrete in the Mississippi River that were once the I-35W bridge. Children are especially susceptible to being affected by these repeated images, says Dr. Mac Baird, head of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota. Letting children discuss the collapse and ask questions at their own pace will help the understanding process.
