Monday morning quarterbacks with all the answers, full tackle backyard games and paint on their chests -- it’s football season and American men are touting the “manliness” and toughness that the game requires. University of Minnesota sociologist Doug Hartmann has studied sports and gender and says men use sports, especially football, as a way to think about and develop their masculinity and sense of camaraderie.
