It's an ambitious and groundbreaking experiment. Scientists from around the world have gathered in a massive underground facility in Europe to collide tiny particles at nearly the speed of light in an attempt to recreate the conditions of the Big Bang. The purpose, says University of Minnesota physics professor Roger Rusack, who is involved in the project, is to discover how the universe began.
