There's no doubt that road salt helps travelers with slippery conditions, but what happens to the chemical when spring arrives? That's what University of Minnesota researchers asked and discovered that it's flowing into our lakes and rivers. Civil engineering professor Heinz Stefan says this will affect aquatic life and drinking water if nothing is done.
