You might not know its name but it played an important part in bringing electricity to farms across America. The University of Minnesota's department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering is celebrating its 100th anniversary by marking its crowning achievement: the 1923 Red Wing Project, one of the first studies to determine the feasibility of delivering electrical power to Minnesota farms. Department head Shri Ramaswamy says the success in Red Wing helped lead to rural electrical development nation-wide.
