Review and Preview

Review of the Week of March 12

President Bruininks testified Wednesday on Senator Pogemiller’s bill that funds some of the recommendations in the U of M Minneapolis Area Neighborhood Impact Report, “Moving Forward Together. Senator Pogemiller and President Bruininks testified that strong neigherboods are vital for a strong University.

Represenative Kahn’s stem cell legislation was voted out of the House Public Safety and Civil Justice Committee on Thursday and now awaits action on the House floor.

Also on Thursday, Vice President Pfutzenreuter answered questions on the Minnesota Biomedical Sciences Research Facilities Authority in the House Capital Investment Committee.

The Senate Higher Education Committee voted out their funding bill. You received a summary of that bill earlier this week.

Preview of the Week of March 19

The House Capital Investment Committee will present the Omnibus Capital Investment Finance bill at their Monday meeting and vote on that bill on Tuesday. It will then be heard in the House Finance Committee on Wednesday. This is the bill that we hope will include funding for our HEAPR request and possibly includes the biomedical sciences bonding authority.

The Senate Finance Committee will hear the Senate Omnibus Higher Education funding bill on Tuesday and most likely have a floor vote on Thursday.

Representative Kahn is authoring the House bill the funds the neighborhood impact report. That bill will be heard on Thursday evening in the House Higher Education committee.

We are assuming that the Senate will pass out of committee more of their spending bills this week and the House will begin assembling their spending bills the week of March 26.
