Een stad die zo weggemoffeld zit in de upper Midwest wordt vaak over het hoofd gezien, maar in allerlei lijstjes komt Minneapolis altijd goed uit de verf. Dat komt allicht juist doordat Minneapolis zo geisoleerd is. Het kost je zes uur om naar Chicago te rijden, in het Zuiden liggen de maisvelden van Iowa, in het Noorden is er het vriesvak also known as Canada, (Winnipeg, geboorteplaats van Neil Young en setting voor de ietwat David Lynch achtige film The Saddest Music in the World ) en in het Westen is er helemaal niks, behalve the dunbevolkte Dakota's en Wyoming. Maar dat geeft wel als voordeel dat alles en iedereen die die nothingness wil ontvluchten hierheen wordt gezogen.
Minneapolis is volgens popular science de technologisch meest geavanceerde stad in de U.S., er wordt hier ook het meest gelezen, het best geslapen.
Het is ook een goede stad voor singles, maar dat weet ik alleen maar van horen zeggen.

I have a hunch that Peter Rothstein has been warming up in the bullpen, waiting to show Twin Cities audiences what he has shown others: his facility and passion for opera. Theatre Latté Da's production of Puccini's La Bohème, now at the Loring Playhouse in Minneapolis, should raise Rothstein's five-year-old company to a new level of visibility.
