Sugar Cookies
Sugar Cookies- (soft) cutouts
½ c butter
½ c Crisco
1 c sugar
2 eggs
½ c milk
1t vanilla
1t salt
1t baking soda
2t baking powder
3 ½ c flour
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add dry ingredients, then milk and vanilla.
Chill batter overnight (hint: the longer you chill batter, the easier it rolls.)
Helpful hint: Have plenty of flour on board when rolling dough. You will flip dough over maybe once or dough will rip.
Roll dough to approximately ¼” thick.
Flour cookie cutters so dough does not stick.
Place first sheet of cookies on top rack until they become slightly puffy; then place second sheet of cookies on bottom rack ( this keeps the bottoms of the top try of cookies from burning.)
Cookies will be light colored… do not wait for tops to become brown ( that means they are overdone.)
As you take cookies off top rack, place cookies from bottom rack to top and put new tray of cookies in bottom rack. Continue this process.
Cookies bake fast… work quick to roll and cut so you can get them in there.
Bake at 350
Frosting: Powdered sugar, T butter, t vanilla, milk
Mix above ingredients until frosting is thick in consistency.
