Why do you think none of the characters in this book (with the exception of Colonel Joll and Mandel) have names?

I think the author wants us as the reader to focus on Colonel Joll and Mandel more than the other characters with no names. I think Colonel Joll and Mandel are more important character in the book and should be look deeper into.

I believe that most of the character in this book doesn’t have names because the main character Colonel Joll doesn’t know the barbarians language.

I think that the author did not give any of the other characters any names, because he wanted us to see and know the characters in the book the same way that Colonel Joll and Mandel see and know them. Since these two characters do not know the names of the other characters in the book, we should not know them either.
