This chapter gives us a perspective on what psychology is, “the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behavior. It explains how a lot of people think psychology is common sense when that is the direct opposite of what it is because as I learned from the reading, most of our intuition ends up being wrong. I never realized how much science there was behind psychology so I found this very intriguing. This chapter also explains the different types of psychology and controversial subjects in the field. One of the debates that caught my attention the most was the Nature-nurture debate on what contributes to our behaviors, our genes or the environment we grew up in. I thought this topic was interesting because I never really thought about but the chapter went so much in depth and it made me contemplate on the question. I guess it wasn’t what I believed that was interesting but the science behind this debate that I am excited to read about later in the chapters.
