Vikings sign new running back
The Associated Press reported Tuesday the Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent running back and kickoff returner Maurice Hicks to a three-year deal.
Hicks will be replacing Mewelde Moore as the Vikings No. 3 running back, behind Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor. Moore joined the Pittsburgh Steelers during the off season.
The 29-year-old Hicks will help the Vikings with their special team play. Last season with San Francisco, Hicks averaged 23.8 yards per kickoff return. In addition, he has amassed 50 special teams tackles in the past three years.
The Star Tribune reported Hicks is the fourth free agent to sign with the Vikings in the past week. Hicks will join new Vikings safety Madieu Williams, fullback Thomas Tapeh and wide receiver Bernard Berrian.
“Coming into this league, to stay in this league, one of the things they tell you when you’re not a big-time draft pick is you’ve got to be good on special teams, Hicks said. (AP)
