The Abdi's, a Somali family, came to Minnesota on a halloween night in 2003. Like many other Somali immigrants in the Diaspora, the Abdi's left Somalia during the Somali civil war in 1990.
Like many other immigrants, the Abdi family went through a three stage process before settling in Minnesota. The three stages include pre-departure and departure, transit, and resettlement. Most migration stories focus on the resettlement phase. The transit phase has been the least documented phase of migration. This project captures the transit experiences of the Abdi family from Kenya to Minnesota.
