Bright and Crisp

We've been having some nice bright, crisp days in our neighborhood. Taking our regular walks and snapping the occasional photo has been a pleasure.

Wire Pulling

Attaching the wire/cable to a pulley is a tricky job.

Behind the Scenes: New Student Orientation

The University of Minnesota has extensive, high quality orientation for new students. Preparation starts months ahead. For my Behind the Scenes project, I photographed orientation student leaders in their first read-through of a dramatization about sexual harassment.

Clouds over the Conservatory

It was a rainy day when we photographed in the Como Park Conservatory in Saint Paul. The rain stopped about 4 PM, and when I went outside the clouds had coalesced into these striking waves.

Como Park Conservatory

Como Park, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is an urban gem. It has a picnic grounds, a zoo, an amusement park, a carrousel, a Japanese garden, and a Conservatory. When it's raining, the Conservatory is a wonderful place to see - and take pictures of - beautiful things. Here are three.

Parking and Transportation Services

Some more photos of people doing the kind of "behind the scenes" work that makes parking and transportation work at the University of Minnesota.

I'm getting back to the "Behind the Scenes" project. Yesterday I photographed some of the activities at the Parking and Transportation Services department at the University of Minnesota.

It's been an unusually warm and sunny spring in Minnesota, and students are taking advantage of it to study, etc., on Northrup Mall.

Work has resumed on the light rail project running through the Twin Cities Campus of the University of Minnesota. They now seem to be laying the track that will eventually connect Minneapolis with Saint Paul.

Freedom Seder

A few weeks ago I took pictures at the Freedom Seder organized by Jewish Community Action, a Saint Paul social justice organization that applies Jewish ethical principles to non-sectarian issues (affordable housing, immigrant rights, etc.) The annual event, usually held a few weeks before Passover, is always a lively and moving affair.

Carlsbad Caverns

Three final images from Carlsbad Caverns. It's such an amazing place, it would be worthy of days or weeks of concentrated photographic effort to experiment with capturing its forms, light, and color.
