The University offers a number of resources to assist students (graduate and undergraduate) with writing. This link takes you to information about "Student Writing Support," which includes 45-minute, personalized consulting sessions. Writing consultants work on issues such as the following: clarity in writing, structure and organization, revision and editing strategies, and proofreading. They also have some consultants that specialize in working with non-native English speakers. This is an important free resource.
Posted by hgroteva at December 12, 2005 10:56 PMIt is great to see so many writing resources for students. My clients typically have a lot of difficulty analyzing and writing the results of quantitative analysis. If you need assistance, feel free to contact www.statsbusters.com.
Posted by: Dr. Mike Babula at November 2, 2006 10:48 PMThe writing center is an amazing resource on campus - many smaller colleges and universities do not offer this to their students, so I think we are very lucky. As a TA last semester, I referred MANY students there (including many non-native English speakers) and over the semester, I gradually saw their writing improve. If you are a TA with students who need to work on their writing skills, send them to the writing center.
Posted by: Ella at January 18, 2007 10:28 AMI also have to agree that the writing center is a great resource to take advantage of while you are a student. I have used their service and I have enjoyed my results and the process of learning how to write better. The writing center has many locations other than their main office on the east bank, including at the Wilson and Magrath library.
You can find more information regarding the locations and hours on their website.

Posted by: Annie at January 18, 2007 4:56 PMNot only have I, as a TA, referred students to the writing center, I also invited them into our class for a presentation. Family Psychology is a writing intensive course and students benefitted from having the writing center come in and present to them as a group. I've also benefitted personally from the service. Well worth the time to use everything they have to offer!

Posted by: Jane Newell at January 18, 2007 11:07 PMI think that the writing center is great resource on campus. For the last Fall semester, I used the writing center. It was helpful and I felt that my writing skill was improved.
Posted by: Sunmi Lee at January 19, 2007 3:33 PMI agree and appreciate the service. On the other hand, however, I wish there were more in-depth service available such as different subject area, different level of the writing (short essay vs. dissertation proposal), selected service for undergraduate vs. graduate student, etc. Just some thoughts...
