Welcome!
Welcome to Biology of Eating Disorders! I hope that you will find the course thought-provoking and relevant. With respect to Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and Bulimia Nervosa (BN), the two main eating disorders diagnosed from DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition), we will discuss diagnostic criteria, medical complications, and possible biological factors in etiology (causes). We will also briefly discuss social influences of disorder etiology, to provide context as we evaluate biological factors' contributions to eating disorders. Good luck and enjoy!
