scouting assistant is paralyzed after a canopy collapsed

A Dallas Cowboys scouting assistant is paralyzed after a canopy collapsed during a heavy thunderstorm Saturday.

Rich Behm, 33, spinal cord was severed by a fractured vertebrae, paralyzing him from the waist down, the team said in a written statement. CNN

Twelve people were hurt when the canopy collapsed over the practice field. A thunderstorm knocked down the air-supported, metal frame structure that covered the team's practice field. About 70 people, including 27 players were at the rookie minicamp.

Joe DeCamillis,the team’s new special teams coach and the assistant athletic trainer Greg Gaither, were also injured when the canopy collapsed.

Greg Gaither, 35, had surgery Saturday night to repair a fracture to the tibia and fibula in his right leg. Yahoo

Behm was in stable condition at Parkland Hospital on Sunday after surgery to stabilize a fracture to the thoracic spine.
