Minnesotans rally for Trayvon Martin

Thousands of people gathered outside of Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota Thursday night to show support for slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

According to Kare 11, an estimated five thousand people attended the rally, many wearing hoodies, and spoke out against racial profiling and gun violence.

The Minnesota Daily reported that the rally started as a Facebook event created by student Jenny Belsito, who initially thought it would be just a small gathering.

The event consisted of speeches by numerous speakers that lasted for about an hour followed by a march around the campus.

The university police worked with the rally organizers to help ensure a safe and peaceful gathering, the Minnesota Daily reported.
