The U.S. State Department released a travel alert on Sunday for American travelers in Europe stating that there is a concern of terrorist attacks by Al Qaeda or related groups.
"U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling," the statement from the U.S. State Department said, according to CNN.
The New York Times reported that the attacks are possibly aimed at Britain, France and Germany and that travelers should not cancel travel plans, but should be vigilant, especially on public transportation and at tourist attractions.
