Hello All, I have been waiting patiently since early-mid September when I posted these 3 shifts on the 'shift board.'
The first one that I would like to take care of is next Friday, October 8th from 2-9pm. If someone could even take 4-9 that would be great.
The 2nd Friday is October 15th and it is the same shift (2-9). These shifts consist of 1/2 hour of shelving, 1/2 break and 6 hours of 2nd desk.
...and the 3rd shift is Sunday, October 17th from 6-midnight which is 2 hours 2nd desk and 4 hours b-desk since it's the weekend.

I am still looking for someone to permanently take all (or part ) of my shift on Mondays from 3 to 8pm. I have lots of conflict on my schedule and it just doesn't work for me anymore. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me out.

Hey guys, I've noticed that no one has taken my shift for this coming Saturday the 2nd, and I was hoping that someone (anyone) would please be kind enough to take it. Its only from 4-9 and won't ruin your night. I've already bought my tickets for NDSU's homecoming game and would really like to use them this Saturday, so could someone PLEASE help me out. I am willing to trade and bribe with brownies :)

Please take your time when checking in items to make sure that Aleph has caught up to you and the book is off of the patron's account. Aleph can be slow at times and that means that we need to work that the speed that it goes. Also when checking items in, be sure to watch the screen for messages that pop up indicating that the item be sent to Wilson, Math, Bio-Med, etc. Even a message that the item has two parts. If that message is not acknowledged and a new book is scanned for check in, the first book that had the pop up message was not checked in and is still on the patron's account. This can cause the patron to get fines even though the item was returned on time.

Please be sure to go slow and acknowledge pop up messages that may appear. If you have any questions, please talk to a supervisor.

Please be sure to wear your own name tag when at work. If you need a new name tag, please let Mary know so a new one can be made. Wearing a name tag is one of the Customer Service points that we are secret shopped on in the spring. The name tag also helps to identify you as library staff when in the library spaces so patrons can know to ask you for directions or help as needed.

Hi all-

For one of my classes I am required to go and observe a session of court. Is there any way someone could take my shift on Oct. 8th, from 7:45-10, so that I could go do this? Thanks.

I am planning on going home October 8th and it would be really great if someone could pick up my shift on Friday 10:00a.m. to 2:00. Shannon was dear enough to take it from 7:45 to 10:00, so all that's left is those last 4 hours. Thank you very much!

Hey all,

I am going to go see The Lion King in Chicago on October 2nd with my sister in law, and we are staying at a hotel for the evening since it will be like midnight till it is over. Because of this, I will have to drive from Chicago up to Appleton, WI and drop her off, then drive back over to Minneapolis on the Sunday, all before 6 pm. That is a lot of driving to do. I was wondering if anyone would generously be willing to take my 6-midnight shift. I know, I know, it is late and boring, but I will endorse you with an energy drink if need be.

I was wondering if anyone would like to permanently take my Wednesday evening shift. My schedule switched around and I now have a night class during my shift. The shift is from 3-8pm.

I really hope someone can sign up for the it....even if it means taking part of it. Please let me know if you can.

There seems to be some confusion about what needs to be filled in on the Shelving Stat Sheet to record shelving times. Hopefully this will help to clear things up.

When you put a truck together to be shelved, you fill out the LEFT side of the sheet entering the following data: Truck number, Name, Start time (time the truck was put together), Date, Number of Items, and Type of Items (Per, 208, Book).

When you shelve the truck the RIGHT side is completed for the truck that you are shelving. Be sure to check that you fill out the lines for the correct truck since the trucks are used over. When you shelve all you need to fill out is the following: Name, Finish Time, Date. Please put the finish time, part of this sheet is to help record times of how long books take to get shelved.

Nothing should be listed in the "Stats Entered" column. That is for me to help me figure out how much was shelved for the day. This sheet helps me record how much we shelve each day and what the turn around time is. If books sit for 3 weeks, that isn't good, but how do we know unless we write it down.

Today is Jimmy Johns Customer Appreciation Day and they are practically giving food away. From 11am to 3pm you can get a sub for $1. Take a break from studying and have lunch.

So for those of you that don't know, we had a dear, dear man named Matt Pekuri leave us recently for greener pastures. And for those of you who know me, I have taken his place as the new night supervisor at Walter!

That's right, me, Tim (othy) Engelstad is and will be your new night supervisor for some time to come. Sure, I have been working here almost two weeks already, but I didn't have permission to post on the blog until today! It's nice to see all the familiar faces, and I look forward to meeting all the newbies here at Walter. So any of you that work after three I have already most likely met. My job here consists of doing the binding until 8 o'clock, when I will take over my position at the Basement Desk until close.

Also, I wanted to shout out to Shannon and thank her for taking two of my shifts in November that are up on the board, as well as Teresia for taking part of one. If anyone wants to work 10PM-12-AM on November second (or can take the whole shift from 8-12mid), its on the board. I will be at binding training all day!

If you have any questions, comment on the blog, email me, or hang around Applebees this Friday night. I'm going to see if I can't make it there...

I'm also getting pretty desperate for my weekend shift to get covered, I will pay $5 to anyone that will come in and work 1-5 this coming Sunday, the 19th! I really don't want to give up my Twins ticket! There's 2 hours at the 2nd desk which is pretty slow on Sundays. Please let me know!

There is a new schedule format this fall. Walter, Wilson, Magrath, and BioMed libraries have all started to use the scheduling system When to Work. This is an on-line system that can be viewed from any of the computers. We will have a short cut installed, so everyone can find it easily and there will also be a print schedule for the transition. We hope that everyone enjoys the new system, When to Work and all the extras that it offers. If there are any questions about it, please let a supervisor know.

We are a little low on staff name tags. If you have worked this summer, please take a look around to see if you have any name tags at home. Also if you are returning from the summer off, if you have one with you from last spring, please bring it back. If you are in need of a new name tag, please let Mary know so a new one can be made for you.

Farewell! Auf wiedersehen! Good night! Today's my last day and let me say, it's been an awful pleasure to work with all of you and you will be missed. I'm sorry I won't get to see returning students and I'm sorry I won't get to know all you new students as well. I'm sure you're all really cool and I wish you the best of luck with the new semester and with the new job. There's a sort of steep learning curve, but if I can do it, you can do it. And good luck, Tim! I'm happy that you got the position! Take good care of those journals and books for me. I've had the pleasure of doting after them and repairing those that needed tender loving care. If you have any questions about binding, etc., shoot me an email; I'd be more than happy to help.

I feel sad leaving such a great job and great coworkers. I know my new job is a fantastic opportunity, but I can't believe I won't get to hang out here anymore. This has been my home for over five years. The university has been my home for over a decade. I'm going to miss it terribly. Take care! I promise to visit!

Well gate count fans (okay, I kid myself, I think I'm the only gate count fan here), this is my last gate count report for you fine folks. Everyone did a wonderful job recording the gate counts this past month. Kudos! Last month, 21,924 patrons visited the library. That's down again from last year: 22,226. This time, I blame the reference staff for kicking out the gate cord. There were several days where the North Gate counted zero visits. Oops!

Fall Schedules have been completed. They are on the shelf in Mary's office. Please let us know if you would prefer to have your schedule emailed to you. The new schedule begins Tuesday, Sept. 7th.
