Hello!

I have been planning my annual Boundary Waters trip with a few friends and the only date that worked for everyone was starting on August 2nd. We are planning on leaving around 4 a.m. that morning and so I was really hoping I could get my Thursday, August 2nd shift from 7:45 to Noon covered.

Thanks for considering to pick up this shift!

Please read Kristia's message regarding the lights:

The lighting control system in Walter Library will be ungraded over the next month prior to school start. This is being done to upgrade away from a system that is over 15 years old and that has failed in the past. Once I have a schedule for the upgrades I will send a follow up email.

The electrical contractor will be testing the existing lighting system. To do this they will be turning lights off in areas periodically for short periods of time.

What to expect:

--Lights will be off from 10-15 minutes at a time.
--Only part of a floor will be off at any time, at no time will an entire floor be dark.
--Lights will be the only thing affected, power to outlets/computers should not be affected.
--Signs will be posted to alert patrons of the outages.

Areas and the days they will be affected this week:

Sub-Basement Level: Tuesday, 7/24
Basement Level: Wednesday, 7/25
4th Floor: Thursday, 7/26
5th Floor: Friday, 7/27

Thank you all for your help and patience through this process. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Kristia

Quick, to the tradeboard!

I need your help Robin! I need to get out of Gotham for awhile, but I need someone to keep an eye on the city for me! It would only be for a couple of hours a night next week. Specifically:

Thursday, July 26th, 5-9pm &
Friday, July 27th, 5-6.

Even if you are already working those days, prowling the city for evil-doers, perhaps you could pick up a couple of hours fighting crime after dark? Every hour you are able to help keeps Gotham safer. Shifts are on the super-secret Bat-board!
Batman thanks you!

Breaks at the Desk

Hi All,

I just have a few reminders about working at the Circulations desks--B and 2nd:
1. Never leave the desk unoccupied. For security reasons, we can't have the gate unoccupied and risk someone walking out with books. If you are scheduled a break during the evenings and weekends, you always need to call a security monitor, even for 15 minute breaks!
2. Please stack books on the return shelves (behind circ) upright with the spine facing out, like you would on Level F. Only unbound periodicals should be stacked on top of one another, not books. Remember your Murder in the Stacks training!
3. Please keep an eye on the return shelves and make trucks up when needed. 30-60 books usually does the trick! (1-2 levels of a book truck)
4. Also please keep an eye on return bins, and retrieve material as soon as you can after it has been dropped. An over-full return bin can cause damage to the books!
5. Have fun! And if you have questions, please ask. We're always learning here at the University of Minnesota Libraries!

Hello friends,

I have been trying to plan a week that I can go home to catch up with the family and march into the wilderness to do some camping. I would really appreciate the help in picking up a few of my shifts to make all of this possible.

My shifts are as follows:
Monday - 7:45am to 12:00pm
Tuesday - 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Thursday - 7:45am to 12:00pm

I posted these hours on the trade board.
Thank you all kindly for considering to pick up these shifts!

Hi all you beautiful summer people!
I'm trying to get a few days off in three weeks to go on a long camping weekend. And I need your help! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, would be to work:

5-9pm on Thursday the 26th and/or
3-6pm on Friday the 27th of July.

Both shifts are on the When to Work calendar, and you don't have to necessarily take both. In fact, I would be surprised if that were the case. If you have questions, please comment/email and we might be able to work something out (take a few hours here and there, etc).

This message will self destruct in 30 days.
Tim
