Damaged items

Hi all,
I just wanted to take a moment and talk about items returned at the circulation desk that may be damaged, or in poor condition. While it may be be known to you that there is a place for these items, there are a few ground rules I would like you to follow when dealing with items that may have the following issues:
--pages missing/falling out
--cracked/broken spine
--torn pages/spine
--general disintegration

The first thing I would like you to know is that there is a place for these books, should you come across them; and that place is on the hold shelf, right under the "N-Q" shelf (you may have noticed the label that says "Mending Shelf"). Here you can place items that seem inappropriate for circulation.

However, there are rules to follow when determining whether these damaged books get put on the "Mending Shelf." Please feel free to ask yourself the following questions when you come across a book that has fallen into disrepair:
--Does it belong to a library other than Walter Sci/Eng?
--Is it on hold/has it been recalled for another patron (either here or otherwise)?
If you answered "yes" to either of the questions above, please follow the procedure you normally would for these items, whether it be sending it back to its owning library or placing it on the hold shelf. Books put on the Mending Shelf must be Walter-owned books with no holds on them.

Thanks for listening,
Tim
