High deductible insurance unfair to women

By Jennie Wander

High deductible health insurance becomes unfair to women because women need more regular check ups than men, study finds.

A Harvard Medical School study found the amount spent by women under 45 for routine check ups is more than double what men spend, Star Tribune said. Women need mammograms, cervical cancer vaccine, pap tests, and more tests that men do not need, Star Tribune said.

Consumer-driven health plans are becoming more popular, even though less than 3 percent use them now, Star Tribune said.
