Halle Berry admits to Parade Magazine that she attempted suicided in her past.

CNN reported Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry says in a magazine interview that she was so depressed after her 1997 breakup with ex-husband and baseball star David Justice that she tried to take her own life.

In this upcoming issue of Parade magazine, Berry says that since then and after a second divorce, she has learned to take control of her own life.

In the magazine she stated "I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me," Berry says of the suicide attempt. "She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do, CNN reported.

Eric Benet, as "really horrific." "We were in sex rehab after one year. I wish I had left then, but I was putting everyone's needs before mine," she says.

For the past year, Berry has been dating model Gabriel Aubry and says she is now ready to have a child.

"Now my sights are set on a different chapter in my life, which is motherhood. That's the goal I have very clearly set for myself," she says.

60 dead after a boat capsized off the coast of Guinea.

CNN reported at least 60 people were killed after a boat capsized off the coast of Guinea, state television in the West African country said Thursday.

It said a "pirogue", or open fishing boat, with 120 people on board had capsized. "36 people survived," the television station said, broadcasting images of survivors being brought ashore.

A police official, said the accident happened late on Wednesday off the capital Conakry and that the boat had been traveling from Forecariah, about 30 miles south.

Massive storm caused dozens of tornadoes from the Rockies to the Plains.

A massive spring storm formed dozens of tornadoes from the Rockies to the Plains, killing at least four people in three states, including a woman who was flung into a tree by a tornado as wide as two football fields, reported the Star Tribune

65 tornadoes were reported late Wednesday in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska, the National Weather Service said. The storms continued Thursday afternoon, with a tornado critically injuring two people in central Oklahoma.

CNN reported that at least 11 tornadoes were reported throughout western Nebraska, destroying three homes and at least 10 miles of power lines. Two twisters touched down in far northwest Kansas,damaging three homes, authorities said.

Reward increased to $22,000 for information leading to three people's death in St. Paul

Ktsp.com reported that the reward offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing three people in St. Paul has ballooned to $22,000.

Authorities say an anonymous donor contributed $15,000 to the reward.
31-year-old Otahl Saunders, his 32-year-old fiancee Maria McLay and McLay's 15-year-old daughter, Brittany Kekedakis, were shot to death by a group of men who broke into their home on March 23rd.

Police say they're continuing to look into more than 100 tips, reported Star Tribune.

One person died and another was critically injured Wednesday in a car crash

One person died and another was critically injured Wednesday evening in a head-on collision on a busy Twin Cities highway, the Star Tribune reported.
Authorities had to shut down a portion of Hwy. 169 at about 6:20 p.m. Patrols worked to clear the accident scene near Brooklyn Blvd. on the border of Maple Grove and Plymouth.

According to Pioneer Press, the patrol officer reported that the driver of a northbound Chevrolet crossed over a grassy median and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Julie Borg, 55, of Plymouth.

Borg was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale with two broken femurs, a collapsed lung and head trauma. She was in critical condition.

The driver of the pick up truck died. The driver's name has not been released reported Star Tribune.

Kate Holmes and Tom Cruise taking a turn for the worst

Katie Holmes marriage to actor Tom Cruise may be turning into a nightmare, US Weekly reported. Katie has to deal with Tom's controlling nature while taking care of their 11-month old daughter Suri. Source close to Holmes reported that Cruise calls all the shots in the marriage and frustrates Holmes. She has been crying over the phone, but Cruise has denied everything. Reports also said that Cruise has been screening all her calls, US weekly reported.

19-year-old Purdue Student's body was found Tuesday

Star Tribune reported Tuesday that a body found slumped over machinery in a dormitory's utility room was identified as a 19-year-old Purdue University student who vanished in January, school officials said.

The body of Wade Steffey was found a day earlier when a maintenance worker was investigating a pinging sound.
Star Tribune reported It appeared that Steffey, a freshman who was last seen Jan. 13 after he left a fraternity party, tripped and fell onto a power transformer, Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg said. "He is believed to have died instantly," she said.
Ktsp.com reported that the worker had unlocked the door room from the inside the co-ed Owen Hall and found Steffy's body.
Afterward, police discovered the room’s exterior door closed but unlocked. Norberg said officials have removed that door’s lock assembly to determine whether the mechanism works, reported Kstp.com

Search for Russion miners after explosion

CNN.com repored that rescue teams continued their search Tuesday for six miners, a day after an explosion ripped through a coal mine in southwestern Siberia. The explosion killed at least 100 people, officials said.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 203 workers were in the Ulyanovskaya mine in Kemerovo area when the methane explosion occurred. The depth was about 270 meters, reported CNN.
President Vladimir Putin sent regional governor Aman Tuleyev a telegram conveying his sympathy for the relatives of victims and support for survivors, according to The Associated Press.
Star Tribune reported that rescuers searched Tuesday for 13 miners missing, and reported only 97 fatalities.

School Board wants to close six Mpls. schools

Star Tribune reported Tuesday that Minneapolis school leaders names five North Side schools they want to close in hope it will boost the area's lagging achievement and loss of students. About 2,100 students would be forced to find new schools, and the district said it will offer them better programs for success, reported the Star Tribune.

District officials blame a $16 million shortfall and declining enrollment as reasons to the close schools, reported the Star Tribune.
Kstp.com reported the schools recommended for closure were: West Harry Davis Academy, Jordan Park Community School, Lincoln Community, Northstar Community School, Shingle Creek Elementary and Tuttle Middle School.

Fire rips throught townhomes in Eagan, Minn.

Star Tribune reported that a fire tore through a 16-unit townhome building in Eagan, Minn. on Sunday night. No one was hurt through the fire, authorities said.
Police arrived at the Forest Ridge Townhomes near Denmark Avenue and Pilot Knob Road about 9 p.m. They helped evacuate the homes before fire crews arrived.

Ktsp.com reported that authorities now believe that a bucket being used as an ashtray may have had something to do with the start of the fire.

Spears having trouble in rehab?

Britney Spears has only been in rehab a short time but reports have begun to surface that she has been struggling already, MSNBC reported. Sources told US weekly that she is "getting in tons of trouble" at the Malibu rehab facility Promises. She has been caught talking on her cell phone and has allegedly left her facility to shop. A source told US weekly Britney believes she is "suffering from postpartum depression. She does not think she has an alcohol or drug problem," reported MSNBC.

Somali civilans attacked in ambush

MSNBC reported that a rocket-propelled grenade attack on African Union peacekeepers and a gunbattle killed at least 10 civilians and wounded two peacekeepers in the Somali capital, Thursday. Mustaf Farah, who witnessed the attack, said he heard an explosion as three armored vehicles carrying peacekeepers passed, followed by gunfire, repoted CNN.
“The police are investigating the incident and the culprits will be treated with iron hands, soon,� reported The Associated Press.

Massachusetts women mauled by one of her show dogs.

A Massachusetts woman was mauled in her home by one of her own show dogs. Shirley Schlager was treated for serious injuries after being attacked by one of her five blue terriers.She escaped the attack and called 911. According to the Star Tribune, rescue workers found her covered in blood. Police said it took about an hour to calm the 45-pound Kerry blue terrier after the attack. Kare11.com said that Sclager's son was also injured trying to break the fight up. Cause of the attack is unknown, reports said.

One man dead and two injured after a shooting Wednesday in St. Paul

Kare11.com reported that Robert Renville, was pronounced dead 8 p.m. Wednesday after he was shot in a while in a car near Ohio and Stevens Streets in St. Paul, said police. The shooting was an alleged "drug deal gone bad," Kare11.com reported two other men were also hit with bullets were fired at car, Livon Lucket, and Russell Robinson.
Ktsp.com reported that it was a barroom attack that happned at Costello's Bar and Grill on Selby Avenue, at 1:30 a.m. It is not known the target of the shooting.


Fire killed a mother, father and four-year-old son in Landfall

Ktsp.com reports that flames ripped through a mobile home Thursday in Landfall, Minn. It killed a the mother, father, and four-year-old son. Two others were rushed to Regions Hospital after the fire started around 4:30 a.m. The fire allegedly started in teh back of the home near the bedrooms and spread quickly to the rest of the mobile home, kstp.com reported.
Star Tribune reported that Luis Alberto Bernal, the father, saved the life of six-year-old son Luis Bernal Jr., but he was unable to save himself or his wife Sandra Bernal and another son Erik Bernal. Their bodies were removed from the scene six hours after the fire was reported. Investigators found no sign of arson or other foul play, star tribune reported.

Brad and Angelina plan to adopt

Us Weekly reported, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are in the process of adopting a child from Vietnam. The couple wants to adopt a boy around 3 or 4 years of age. A U.S. adoption agency filed the papers at Vietnam's International Adoption Agency, said Vu Duc Long, the agency's director. They filed the papers this week and awaiting the approval, CNN reported

Jolie and Pitt, already have three children: 5-year-old son Maddox, adopted from Cambodia, 2-year-old daughter Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, and daughter Shiloh, who was born in May, reported CNN.

An al-Qaeda-linked Sunni group said that it kidnapped 18 government workers and soldiers due to the alleged rape of a Sunni woman by members of the Shiite police force, reported USA today. Photos showed 18 blindfolded men. Seven were wearing Iraqi military uniforms with their hands tied behind their backs. Hours later the government said the bodies of 14 security officers had been found, reported CNN.

42,000 people licensed to carry handguns in Minnesota

Star Tribune reported that more than 42,000 people are licensed to carry handguns in the public in Minnesota. 19,147 of those permits are in the seven-county Twin Cities Metro area. However, this amount falls short of the legislative estimate of 90,000 within three years of the 2003 law.

Hennepin County has the most licenses with 6,612. Next is St. Lous County with 3,462, then Anoka, Ramsey, Dakota, Washington, and Scott. Those licensed must be 21, pass a gun training test, and a background check, reported the Star Tribune.

8 Students die in Tornado in Alabama

A storm tore throw parts of the Midwest and Southeast this week. In Enterprise, Ala., the tornado ripped apart an Alabama high school, hitting a hospital, and caused 20 fatalities, reported Star Tribune. Eight students died when the storm hit Enterprise High School. All the students died when a tornado too a hit in one wing where all the students were. It blew out the walls and roof, reported USA today.

Augsburg wrestler Hopes to Win 4th Natinal Title

Marcus LeVesseur, a 24-year old senior at Augsburg College has the chance to win is one last title and finish his career undefeated. He had won three national titles in 2002, 2003, and 2004, reported Star Tribune. He missed a year of school and sports due to some trouble with alcohol and the law. He cleaned his act up, went to rehab and re-entered the wrestling team late December in 2006. He holds 27-0 record this season, making his college record 151-0. USA today said he is ranked No. 1 at 165 pounds. The National tournament is to take place this weekend. He is favored to become the first D-III wrestler to win four individual national title, and end his career unbeaten and untied, reported the Star Tribune.
