U granted record research money

The University of Minnesota is up to the eight highest spending university in the nation, according to the Star Tribune.

The increase is up two spots from 2005, and 2010 will see a 23 percent increase according to the National Science Foundation.

Vice President for research Tim Mulcahy said that the spending in this fiscal year is a new high-water mark for the university.

The grants may have come at a good time, because state and federal money are reportedly "drying up."
