Chapter 337: Life on Mars

5:56 PM me: did you read about the avalanches on mars?
or see the pictures?
Ruth: no, i didn't.
that sounds fascinating.
5:57 PM http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/space/03/03/mars.avalanche.ap/index.html
it's just the most amazing thing i can think of really.
5:58 PM Ruth: yes, very strange.
5:59 PM i guess avalanches would put a major crimp in any future "life on mars" business
me: perhaps, but to think that something like that is happening, it's all very "if a tree falls in the wood..."
6:00 PM Ruth: yes, indeed
and to think that this is just our universe
that there are others out there in which other things like this could happen everyday!
mind-boggling really
and somewhat comforting
6:01 PM largeness doesn't make me feel insignificant, it makes me feel like my mistakes aren't as bad
6:02 PM you know?
6:04 PM me: i know, like there are these infinitesimal layers of existence, but things decompose and fail and erode everywhere
6:06 PM Ruth: it's comforting to think about life in layers.
i think i might actually thinks more spatially then I give myself credit for
i was thinking about that just now.
in writing, i tend to focus on physical perception, which by nature is spatial, right?
6:09 PM me: it is indeed

Cosmic.
