Minnesota's best restaurants

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Hi readers,

When I feel busy and stressful, I often go eat out.
But, if you are new here, it is difficult to know which restaurant is good or not...
So,,, I report you from the actual eating experience!

Last week, I went to a Italian Restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis called "Buca."

Hello readers,

As an international student, I need to maintain full-time enrollment. So, although I am done with my actual coursework, I enrolled in a couple of courses this semester, thinking with only these and working 20 hours a week, I would still have time for other "professional development" stuff. This was my [heavily edited] week.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together

Minnesota State Fair, also known as "The Great Minnesota Get-Together", is the largest state fair in USA (in terms of daily attendance). Typically the fair is organized in late summer, 12 days before labor day and draws more than 1.5 million people. The fair is organized at the University of Minnesota's St Paul campus, Falcon Heights to be precise. The fair and its location has historical significance. Earlier Minneapolis and St. Paul had competing fairs but in late 1880s they merged the fair and decided to host it at neutral ground (Falcon Heights is between Minneapolis and St. Paul).

The state fair is full of activities, food, live music, exhibits etc Usually one day is not enough to cover the entire fair. Also, they have different attractions on each day. In food, you will find unique and delicious Minnesotian dishes like fried cheese curds, fried Walleye on a stick, Gator on a stick, lamb burger, scotch eggs and so on.

The fair the very large and diverse, most of the time you will come across something unexpected, unique and mesmerizing.  For example this year, the Live Birthing Center was major attraction. in that center you get an opportunity to see live births and plenty of little babies. So in short you will find activities and attraction for all age groups.

It was a great experience for me. Everyone must attend before starting the academic year :)
I forgot to mention, as a student you get concession as well and tickets can be purchased from Coffman information desk.

Minnesota Nice

Hello!!!

How is life treating you? I am doing well and can't wait for Thanksgiving break. We get to stay home and rest for 5 days. What's even more exciting is that I will have time to visit friends and enjoy being in Minnesota. After 6 years in Minnesota, I feel at home and this would not have been possible without the genuine amiability of Minnesotans.

In addition, the Twin Cities area is home to a diverse population where you get to discover cultures from around the world. One of my favorite places is the Lake Street corridor that hosts numerous restaurants and shopping centers. I strongly recommend the Midtown Global Market where you will find some of the best dining stores.

I have visited Lake Superior , Duluth, MN which is the world's largest freshwater lake by surface. I have also visited the Spilt Rock Lighthouse located along the north shore of Lake Superior. And, if you like the outdoors, Minnesota is the place to be. There are wilderness areas, parks, bike trails, and forests that campers and hikers will love.

I have been around for a while, and I have done a little research. I came to the conclusion that Minnesota is a great state for students who want to reach their highest potentials and make a great contribution to humanity. The University of Minnesota in particular continuously strives to attract students from all walks of life and provide the resources necessary to succeed. I personally have relied on the International Student and Scholar Services and its outstanding staff.

To sum up, Minnesota provides the best environment for students, and it is a great state to visit and live in.

What I like about Minnesota

Dear You

Hello. I hope everything is going well.
Today, I will share one thing that I love about Minnesota.
It is the weather in summer!
If you read other postings, you would know that winter is pretty cold in Minnesota.
After long and cold winter, beautiful summer comes.
Summer is hot and dry in Minnesota which is different compared to the summer weather in Korea.
Summer gets very hot and humid in Korea.

It is fun to enjoy sunny weather while engaging in outdoor activities, such as camping, attending outdoor concerts, swimming, and canoeing.
Here is a picture of me canoeing with my friends at a lake.

Have a great day!

Why....?  The reasons are...
Hello readers!

So, when planning the next five years of your life, you can't help but be excited right? New city, new country, graduate school... It's your life for the next few years and you want them to be good years.

Events at UoM

Graduate student life at the University of Minnesota is not all about classes, research, home works, projects and so on. There is always something happening on the campus
that you might find interesting. For example, one of my friend loves violin (she used to play it regularly) and she started missing it in Minnesota. One or two days later
she come to know that there is free-violin show on campus !!! Morale of the story is, whatever may be your interest, you will find a club/ people pursing that activity. That could part of curriculum or personal hobby.
One can check SUA website to find major events happening on the campus. This weekend I attended Indian cultural show (Jee Le). The show was organized by Indian Student Association (ISA), the show had many performances by the university students and students living around the Twin Cities area. This was the second major Indian show in past 2 weeks. First one was during Diwali festival, a national festival of India, Nepal (similar to Christmas).
Such events helps you to connect not only with students from your country but also other native/ international students having similar cultural interest.
