Inspired by the collaborative process of bringing Minneapolis city planners and artists together in the Creative CityMaking project, this seminar is designed to attract students with a broad range of interests. Together we will explore the diverse and sometimes divergent perspectives that contribute to the process of creative city making and the process of making art public. Using the UMN campus as our site, you will be introduced to a set of artistic research media and processes to create photo, video, audio, mapping, or storytelling portraits that will inform your collaborative projects. Guest speakers will introduce you to their experiences as city planner, architect, artist, engineer, public historian, youth leader, and community activist. The seminar will culminate in a collaborative public project that will emerge from your creative research process and be sited on the UMN campus.
