Socializing Surveillance :

Hello again everyone and it was good to meet you all!

As we discussed, I am following up with some of the readings and other
issues needed to move forward:

1) This article 

 
I wrote on surveillance: Hadjiyanni, T., & Kwon,
J. (2009). The social dimension of security – Exploring how surveillance
systems relate to Interior Design. Journal of Interior Design, 34(3), 1-15.

It will help you with the current knowledge and approaches to the problem
of surveillance. It also provides theoretical direction into how to engage
what we call "the social dimension", i.e. the users of the space. Lastly,
it outlines some of the social problems associated with present
surveillance systems.

2)The second article comes from ECE and introduces the notion of
'sous-veillance'. Mann, S. (2004). “Sousveillance” – Inverse surveillance
in multimedia imaging. Proceedings of the 12th annual ACM international
conference on Multimedia, New York, NY, USA, 620 – 627.


3) Here is a link to the web site that Prof. Willow recommends that
includes many projects that use surveillance. This will be inspirational to
you and could give you ideas as to what we could do with monitors, etc.
These art projects propose alternative displays and social engagement.


4) Prof. Willow should be getting back to you soon with the blog.

5) We could look into wireless cameras so we do not have to hire
electricians to install them. Can the person in charge of cameras look into
that too?

6) Lastly, as of now, we have identified the two-hour window of Tuesdays
between 10-12 as a possible meeting time. We only need to meet for one
hour. Prof. Willow, can you please let us know if this time works for you
and if so, which block: 10-11 or 11-12?
