Guess me! Guess me!

Here's a movie trivia picture challenge that is a different kind of pre-Halloween horror. Because this one is so difficult, I will give you a couple of clues: Viet Nam, Motion Pictures Association of America ratings controversy, and this was one of the first films made by the female lead, who went on to become a very popular tv series star (and no, the female lead is not K. D. Lang, and that's a man in the picture).

If no one gets it, I will give you another clue later on.

Good luck!

Improve your vocabulary!

I'm blogging for a couple reasons (1. I just figured out how. So hopefully this works, and 2. I just think this is awesome)

http://www.freerice.com/index.php

Go to the website above and you can improve vocabulary (Don't do it the month before the GRE like me, but make it part of your college career and the GRE won't be painful). And, you can also, through playing, donate rice to starving people.

Important Online Training Program

Some of you should have received in your UMN email a notice about:

Public Jobs: Private Data Online Training Program

This program has been developed to help workforce members and volunteers on all campuses of the University of Minnesota learn about securing University data. Since you all work with ALEPH and have access to sensitive patron personal information, you are required to complete this training as part of the criteria for maintaining your job standing.

The training consists of three primary courses (Data Security in Your Job, Securing Your Computer Workstation, and Using University Data).

Please follow the instructions for completing this important training (you have a particular window of opportunity to do so, but I encourage you to complete it in a timely manner. Don't put it off ~ each section will only take about 15 minutes of your time.

If you have any questions, please badger the full-time staff (who may or may not have answers). Some of you may have already completed this training during the course of the year. If you think you have already done so, check your training history at the Human Resources Self Service web page.

Everyone, please respond to this post to indicate that you have read it. Thank you!

Newspaper Stats

There have been some problems with the Newspaper Collection in MNCAT. The main one being that the Newspaper holdings may show issues that we physically do not have on the shelf. Also, the holdings are sorting by Day then Month instead of Month then Day. We would like to see how frequently we get questions about these problems. In order to do this there is a calendar page by the paper cutter.

Attempted Assault in Library

Today there was an attempted assault on the fourth floor of Wilson Library with the perpetrator getting away. While incidents like this do not typically occur in the library, it is important that we take precautionary actions to ensure that everybody remains safe. Remember if you see suspicious activity out in the library to let a full time staff member know.

If you are concerned about walking to and from the library or campus, the UMPD suggests that you call the Campus Escort Service at 612-624-WALK (9255). The Campus Escort Service is available 24 hours a day.
