Wednesday Nightly Recap

Kyle and I had an eventful night...a patron came to the desk asking us "do you guys have a cash register behind there" . Lo and behold he was only asking for change for a twenty. Other than that the night went very smooth...

Help!

I am in desperate need of someone to cover my 5:30 - 9:00 pm shift on Wednesday, May 7th. I will be unable to work because of mandatory commitments. If you can help me out, please let myself or Becky know.

P.S. I will be forever indebted to whoever covers this shift for me, and they will be entitled to one favor redeemed at the time of their choosing.

Thank you!
Kyle LeClaire

All students who want to help must comment that they have read this post.

Nightly Recap

Mainly just general questions tonight, but one student asked us how he can search for a specific topic using the University Library website. Overall it was a good night with no questions that Dan and I could not handle.

Name that...

Last week's film was Peter and the Wolf. Here is this weeks:

Monday Night Recap

No problems, a few questions about journals and where to find them, one mircofilm help session and a small room pick up. Everything ran very smooth....

Sunday Night Recap

Nothing exciting happened today. We had one person that needed a lot of help with the system, but we could answer all the questions.

Sunday

Marie and Jacey called in sick. Because of the staff shortage, I did not open the info desk. Brent shelved unbound and I shelved bounds for half an hour each. We both also cleaned for half an hour. The desk was fairly slow. A room pick-up was done at the beginning of the shift.

April 26, 2008

Saturday

It was slow at the desk. Brian shelved bounds and cleaned for a half hour each. I shelved microfilm and cleaned, also for a half hour each. A man took over 40 Railway Age journals off the shelf and left them on the tables. I reshelved those. Room pick-ups were done at the beginning and the end of the shift.

Friday Recap

Today it was once again rainy and gross outside, so the library was not very full at all. It seemed that the majority of the patrons in the periodical section today were looking for certain types of microfilm. I had one problem today where a patron could not find a specific microfilm date because it was not out on the shelf in its place. After asking Becky it turned out that the entire box for that date was in the back to be repaired. Otherwise the afternoon went well.

April 24, 2008

Nightly Recap

Tonight it was a rainy mess outside so there were not very many patrons using the library facilities, or asking any questions. The few questions we did receive we were able to answer, and I did not notice any new leak spots while completing the room pickup.

Last week's film was Mary Poppins. Here is this weeks.

Nightly Recap

Everything went well tonight. It was busy, but nothing overwhelming. I did have one problem accidentally requesting a book for myself instead of a patron, but other than that there were no problems. Brent took off early for an extra credit opportunity, but I held up the post on my own. Other than that all is quiet on the Wilson Reserve Desk Front.

Monday Night Recap

Insanity on Monday night...

Someone decided to over the course of the day to take out and apparently read 40 volumes of Fortune and decide to leave them on the tables in the study area. Lets just say that room pick up wasn't so sweet and that whoever did this is very lazy and unkind. Other than that the night went very smooth....

Sunday night Recap

Nightly Recap...read on!

The night was a very slow night, I think it was due to the ridiculously nice weather outside, other than that Janette shelved bounds for an hour and I shelved unbounds for an hour. All is well on the home front!

April 19, 2008

Saturday

Saturday has been slow. Room pick-ups were done. I ate a lot of candy.

April 17, 2008

Nightly Recap

Tonight there were barely any patrons needing our services. Janette and I only received a few regular questions, but it was nothing we could not answer.

Cell Phones

Just a Reminder:
Cell Phones must be turned off or put on vibrate while at work. Also remember that using your cell phone while at the desk is not allowed. This includes sending and receiving text messages.

Reminders

Just a couple reminders:

First, Spring Semester Schedule runs through May 17.
This includes Finals Week, so if you have an exam or are planning to leave right after finals. You must find a replacement.

Second, make sure when bringing microfilm to the re-shelving area, put Wils Microfilm and Newspaper Microfilm in the correct area. Each has its own location in the re-shelving area.

Name that...

Last week's movie was 101 Dalmatians.

Nightly Recap

Tonight was not a very busy night at the reserve desk. Dan and I had a few questions on locating journals that we did not actually carry in our collection and I had one patron ask me to help her find a certain date of a national newspaper. Otherwise everything seemed to go fine, with no questions unanswered.

Monday Night Recap

The Craziness of Monday Nights!!!

Tonight was extra crazy, we helped some people, shelved some books, and just supervised the entire basement...all is well on the home front!

an infamous day in history ~

To memorialize the 143rd anniversary of this dark day in American history, the bonus trivia of the week is a three-parter about architecture (because that makes sense, right?)! Careful now, this one might be tricky!

1. Here's the easy one: name four things that Ford's Theater was used for since the original building was erected in 1833.

2. This one is a bit harder: This is a picture of Ford's Theater as it is restored today. Name one important piece of the presidential box and/or its detailing that is original (in other words, from 1865 and not a reproduction)?

3. This one might be the hardest of all: This is a picture of Ford's Theater as it is appeared in 1865. What color were the original heavy curtains (not the lace ones) hanging above the presidential box?

bonus bonus question (super hard for those trivia superpeople!): On June 9, 1893 an accident at Ford's Theater in which several floors collapsed killed 22 people and injured another 68. What coincidental event also happened on this day, leading people to believe (once and for all) that the building was cursed?

Nightly Recap

Nothing exciting happened. Justin did some bounds shelving and Janette did a cart of Data Ease. We had a few people ask about Microfilm but nothing new.

April 12, 2008

Saturday Recap

Saturday in review: Brian shelved bounds and shelf-read unbounds for half an hour each. I did one truck of data ease for 1 hour. There was a patron who was upset about having the Type 1 lens checked out to him. Otherwise it was pretty quiet.

April 11, 2008

Nightly Recap

Today was a day filled with many questions from patrons, particularly how to locate a specific issue of a newspaper for a specific date in the past. Most of these patrons seemed to be high school students who were working on a research project. None of their questions were to hard to answer though, so that is a good thing. I checked the leaks at the end of the shift and adjusted a few of the buckets.

April 10, 2008

Nightly Recap

Tonight I was the lone ranger at the desk, but luckily it was so slow that it really did not make much difference. I had a few people come in to check out reserve items or periodicals and that was about it. I checked the leaks while I was doing a room pickup and they seemed to be dripping in the tubs with no new leaks that I could see.

Wednesday Nightly Recap

Read more to find out what actually happened....

Kyle and I enjoyed each others company along with helping a few patrons with their unsurmountable problems. We really enjoy helping patrons out on a daily bases it helps us sleep at night. Other than that all is well on the home front. Happy Thursday!

Name that...

Last week's film was Donald in Mathmagic Land, which was a Disney educational film staring Donald Duck and the wonders of math.

Nightly Recap

Tonight was about the same as every other night with a few questions about where to locate periodicals, where to copy periodicals and how to locate a book upstairs with a call number. Brian came in to cover the end of Dan's shift and the rest of the evening went smoothly.

April 07, 2008

Nightly Recap

Tonight I filled in for Justin from 6-9 pm with Kyle. There were no real problems tonight, besides a few questions about photo copying and purchasing copy cards. One patron did ask me how to print double-sided pages and we had a bit of trouble trying to figure that out. Otherwise everything went well!

April 06, 2008

Nightly Recap

Sunday Night Recap

All is well on the homefront! No problems, few patrons...
Janette: 1 hr dusting
Justin: 1 hr dusting

Sunday Day Shift

Becky: Room pick-up at opening, shelved unbounds for an hour, dusted for 40 minutes.
Brent: dusted for an hour
Marie: dusted for 45 minutes to an hour.

The shift was pretty quiet.

*I forgot to mention yesterday that one of the scanner was broken when we got here.

April 05, 2008

Saturday Recap

Saturday was slow. We are out of Wilson Library maps. The room was picked up at the beginning and end of the shift. Brian shelved bounds for an hour. I completed a cart of bounds check-ins, which took an hour and a half.

April 04, 2008

Nightly Overview

Nothing much happened tonight...just a couple questions about how to use microfilm/fiche. It seemed that most people were looking for specific dates of a newspaper dating back to the 1800's. The leaks in the ceiling are dripping slowly and look the same.

April 03, 2008

Nightly Overview

There wasn't much going on tonight at the reserve desk. Janette and I each did a cart of data ease bound check-in. We had one tough question regarding locating an Asian based periodical that had to include photographs. I didn't see any major leaks going on either.

April 02, 2008

Wednesday Nightly Recap

Nothing happened...we miss Becky already!!! The leaks all looked good slowed down and stopped...overall shift went well.

Becky out of office

I'm going to be out of the office starting April 3. I'll be back next Tuesday, April 8. I'll be in San Antonio for Final Four Weekend festivities. You can consult the white board and check in with Elena about tasks in my absence.

Nightly Overview

Tonight was a regular slow evening with the usual questions on locating periodicals and microfilm. The only problem that occurred was that a U-card got stuck in the Uni-Print station card slot and is currently still out of order. Besides that everything else seemed to be ship shape.

Desk Tracker

Starting April 2 the process for logging into Desk Tracker will change. The new procedure is hanging at the desk.
